Frank Kennedy - Distinguished Service (1957-1992)

Frank Kennedy wore many hats during his tenure with the Cedarburg School District. He began his career in 1957 as an English teacher and guidance counselor, then became Assistant Superintendent. In 1969 Kennedy was promoted to Superintendent, where he remained until his retirement in 1992.

It was common for Kennedy to be seen attending high school sporting events and practices. He often recounted the success of a Cedarburg team with as much enthusiasm as if it was his own accomplishment.

With the passage of Title IX in the 1970’s, women’s athletics began to play a bigger role in high school athletics; and Kennedy fully supported this important expansion for women in Cedarburg. He also established the Cedarburg high school soccer program in the 1980’s.

Frank Kennedy realized athletics was the perfect complement to the rigorous academic component of school. He felt that students who committed the time to combine academics with athletics were better prepared for their future endeavors, while creating lifelong friends and memories in the process.

A life insurance policy was set up through the Cedarburg School District so that, at the time of his passing, more than $100,000 was donated to the district. The money was used towards the bleacher project on the track/football complex.
