Sonja (Knuth) Justesen - Athlete (Class of 1975)

Sonja Knuth, a four-year letter winner in track (1972-75), was the first individual female athlete from Cedarburg High School to win Braveland Conference titles, qualify for state competition all four years, and garner a top place finish in state-level competition.  She took second in the 440 yard dash at the 1974 WIAA State Track Meet.

In 1974 Knuth set three Braveland Conference and school records, winning the 220 yard dash, the 440 yard dash, and the 880 yard medley relay.  The following year she broke her conference record in the 440 yard dash, set a new school record in the 220 yard dash, and finished fifth at the WIAA State Meet in the 440 yard dash.

In all, Knuth captured six Braveland Conference titles, set four conference records and six school records.

Knuth attended the University of Wisconsin—Oshkosh graduating magna cum laude.  At Oshkosh she earned WWIAC All-Conference honors in 1976 and 1978 and established school records in the 400 meter dash and the 1600 meter relay. Sonja (Knuth) Justesen went on to successfully coach high school track, cross country, and swimming for 15 years, where her teams achieved conference, sectional and state championship awards.
