Kenneth H. Oberheu, M.D. Athlete - Class Of 1953

Ken earned eight varsity letters during his remarkable athletic career at Cedarburg High School.  He played on five 4-C Conference championship teams, including the 1949-50, 1951-52, 1952-53 basketball teams, as well as the 1951 and 1952 conference championship football teams.  He was a captain and co-most valuable player on the 1952-53 basketball team and received honorable mention on the 1950’s All-Ozaukee County Boys’ Basketball Team.

Ken graduated from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in 1961.  He spent nearly his entire career at Miami Valley Hospital (MVH) in Dayton, Ohio, where in 1968 he founded the open heart program.  He was the chief of staff from 1976-1978 and performed the first open heart surgery and the first coronary bypass surgery in the history of MVH.  Ken was Clinical Professor and Director of Wright State University School of Medicine, Division of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery, from 1975 to 2001.  He compiled a distinguished list of achievements, awards, and recognition during his career.

Ken is the founder of the Golden Bulldogs organization, which has given recognition to teachers, administrators, athletes, and students at Cedarburg High School.  This has afforded Ken his lifelong ambition in giving back to a community that has meant so much to him.
