Jack Friess - Athlete (Class Of 1967)

Jack Friess is recognized as one of the finest athletes ever to perform for the Bulldogs.  Jack was the team’s most valuable player in baseball and basketball during his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons.  He was a team captain and First Team All-Braveland Conference selection in both sports during his junior and senior years.

Jack was the leading scorer in basketball each of his three seasons and led the baseball team in batting average as a sophomore and senior.  He was a member of the 1966-67 Braveland Conference championship basketball team, which finished with a 21-2 record.   That season Jack led the Braveland in scoring and ended his three-year varsity career with 1161 points, a record that stood for 43 years.  As a senior, Jack was First Team All-State in baseball and Third Team All-State in basketball.

Jack played baseball at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, earning All-Conference honors as a four-year starter in center field.   He led his team to four conference and district championships, as well as the 1971 College World Series, where he was voted to the All-Tournament team.  Jack also played basketball for two seasons at UWO.

He was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in 1971 and finished in the top ten in batting average in the Sarasota Rookie League.
